Day 1

Arrival Cairo

Ahlan, Welcome to Egypt- Land of the Pharaohs Upon arrival at Cairo, we will meet you at the airport and then whisk you to our beautiful hotel located minutes away from the mighty Pyramids. Enjoy your first meal with your fellow travelers at a local restaurant/hotel. We will check in and relax for a while before we head together to witness the Sound and Light Show at the Pyramids. It is a magnificent show that brings creatively to life the rule of ancient Egyptians. The artists skillfully created a show to present images of all historical eras. For an hour, we enjoy the sound and light show near the pyramids and the Sphinx. The history is re-told by the Sphinx, telling us the most ancient secrets of the world. Then we will proceed to a restaurant for a local dinner. Overnight stay at hotel in Cairo. Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2

Today we will explore the rich and ancient history of Cairo with our Egyptologist guide.First we head to the Pyramids. The Great Pyramid of Giza (or the Cheops Pyramid) is a defining symbol of Egypt and the last of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World and is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids. We will walk inside the base of this Pyramid through a steep stone cut incline-definitely not for the faint hearted!! Then we proceed to The Great Sphinx, a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. Afterwards we enjoy a local lunch with a view of the Pyramids and the Sphinx. We will then head to the Papyrus institute where we will learn the entire process of papyrus(a material similar to thick paper that was used in ancient times as a writing surface) manufacturing. We will be able to buy some beautiful temple drawings and pharaonic figures painted on them as they make very good souvenirs. Onwards to visit the Egyptian Museum, which features artifacts from the Pharaonic period. The museum displays a rare collection of 5000 years of art which is considered the largest most precious collection of Egyptian art in the world. Over 250,000 artifacts are presented, including an exhibit dedicated to Tutankhamen collection of treasure, gold and jewelry which was enclosed in his tomb for over 3,500 years before it was discovered in the 1920s when his tomb was discovered. In the evening we will head to the local bazaar Khan El Khalili which is a major souk in the historic center of Cairo. In addition to shops, there are several coffeehouses, restaurants, and street food vendors. The coffeeshops are generally small and quite traditional, serving Arabic coffee and usually offering shisha. One of the oldest and most famous coffeehouses is Fishawi's, established in 1773. We will enjoy dinner at a local restaurant after which we will return to the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel in Cairo. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

One of Nubia's most important monument sites, the Temples of Philae was an ancient pilgrimage center for the cult of Isis. We will visit the magnificent First and the Second Pylon (entranceway) and the forecourt, the temples main courtyard along with our guide. We will then embark on the cruise boat –our home for the next 3 nights and enjoy lunch on board after checking in. Late afternoon, we will take a Felucca (wooden boat) ride across the Elephantine Island and the Botanical garden before returning to the cruise to enjoy dinner on board the cruise. Once we return to the cruise we head for lunch on board and relax on the deck while we sail to Kom Ombo. Upon arrival in Kom Ombo we will head out to visit the temple of Kom-Ombo, dedicated for gods Sobek and Haroeris. The Temple of Kom Ombo is an unusual double temple and is unique because its 'double' design meant that there were courts, halls, sanctuaries and rooms duplicated for two sets of gods. We will return to the cruise and continue sailing towards Edfu. We will enjoy dinner on board the cruise which is followed by oriental entertainment, belly dancing and tanoura show. Overnight stay on the cruise. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

With its roof intact, it is also one of the most atmospheric of ancient buildings. Upon return to the cruise we will enjoy lunch while we continue sailing onwards to Luxor via Esna, crossing the Esna lock. After docking in Luxor we will head out to the city to visit the Illuminated Luxor Temple, which was the largest and most significant religious center in ancient Egypt. The temple was built by Amenhotep III but completed by Tutankhamun and Horemheb. Toward the rear is a granite shrine dedicated to Alexander the Great. Today, remains of this vast complex include the colossal Great Colonnade Hall, almost 61 meters long, with 28 twenty-one-foot-high columns. We will then head back to the cruise for dinner.
